Ed Blau, a prominent entertainment attorney whose clients included Jerry Lewis, Rock Hudson and, for more than 50 years, Johnny Mathis, died Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles, his family announced. He was 94. Blau began in show business at the New York office of Lew Wasserman's MCA talent agency. He then came to Los Angeles, became a partner at a prestigious law firm and branched out on his own. Blau's clients over the years also included Steve Allen, Fred Astaire, Bobby Darin, Dennis Hopper, Rowan & Martin, Siegfried & Roy, Dionne Warwick, Jerry Mathers, writer Henry Miller, The Magic Castle, Ralph Edwards Productions and the Caucus for Producers, Writers and Directors. He represented the legendary singer Mathis since they first met in 1962. Blau was born in the Bronx, and his parents, who emigrated from Hungary in the early 1900s, ran a neighborhood bakery. He earned a degree in business administration from City College of New York, served with the U.S. Air Force and graduated from Harvard Law School in 1951. Survivors include his wife Rita; children Gary, Roni and Sharon; granddaughters Ariella and Elana; and sister Rita.
