‘Suicide Squad’ Director David Ayer Apologies For Four-Letter Anti-Marvel Outburst At NY Premiere
Suicide Squad director David Ayer took to Twitter tonight to apologize for voicing a quick, four-letter outburst at the New York premiere of his movie tonight. The target? DC Comics’ archrival Marvel Comics.
When someone from the DC-loving New York crowd apparently yelled an anti-Marvel insult, Ayer repeated it. “F*ck Marvel,” Ayer said, as you can see from the cellphone video, naturally enough. He soon tweeted his regrets, saying he got “caught up” in the moment.
“Not cool,” the director conceded. “Respect for my brother filmmakers.”

Sorry about getting caught up in the moment and saying f*ck Marvel. Someone said it. I echoed. Not cool. Respect for my brother filmmakers.

The Monday premiere was attended by the Suicide Squad principal cast, including Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevigne; none of them, apparently, got caught up in that particular moment.
Introducing the archvillain pic, Smith said: “I’ve made a lot of movies, and some of them you can’t even count as movies. David Ayer said something that was really interesting: He said it’s not a movie of good versus evil, it’s a movie of bad versus evil, and this is one of the baddest casts in the whole you know what world right here.”
Smith went on to praise the Squad for its diversity. “What I love about working with this group, as you see up on this stage, it’s a rainbow. It’s all races, creeds and colors. It’s the diversity that this country is supposed to be about.”
