variety.com/2016/digital/news/netflix-lplaylists-flixtape-1201815363/ Netflix Launches Mixtape-Like Playlists for TV Shows and Movies Dubbed Flixtapes Playlists are finally coming to Netflix: The video service rolled out a new feature dubbed Flixtape Friday that makes it possible for viewers to compile and share their own playlists of shows and movies. Netflix’s Flixtape micro-site also comes with a few pre-compiled playlists, including “The Summertimes Flixtape,” “The Kiss and Tell Flixtape” and “The Family Reunion Flixtape.” Users who decide to compile their own Flixtapes are also being given a helping hand, with Netflix offering to suggest phrases to compile playlists around, and even searching its catalog to find possible matches for any given Flixtape title. Viewers can customize the cover of their Flixtape, and then dedicate it to a single recipient, or share it more widely on social media. However, don’t expect a Netflix playlist to work like a playlist on Spotify. Instead of launching into the playback of the actual videos, Flixtapes simply list and preview each movie or show — which makes a lot of sense, given that a single show can consist of many hours of video.
