‘DC All Access’ Free App Pushes Comics Franchises, Starting With ‘Batman v Superman’
App from DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. aggregates content and promotions for films, TV, video games, comics
DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Entertainment are giving comics fans a one-stop app for all things tied to the DC Universe of characters and properties.
The free DC All Access app — a new marketing tool to help WB and DC combat Disney’s Marvel superheroes — launched Thursday for Apple iOS and Google Android devices. It pulls together promotional content for the DC brand’s array of films, TV, video games and comics. The app promises exclusive news and reveals, original videos, exclusive DC character emojis, movie tickets, fan sweepstakes and giveaways, and a comic-book reader.
To promote the launch, DC and Warner Bros. have stocked the app with exclusive video, graphics and behind-the-scenes footage from “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” film, which hits theaters March 25. In addition, DC All Access user will have the chance to win tickets to the movie’s New York premiere, with additional exclusive reveals and giveaways planned for the coming weeks.
“The DC All Access app is a global, studio-wide effort that brings together all things DC like never before,” said Sam Ades, VP of digital marketing for DC Entertainment. “It’s such an exciting time for DC with our film slate, TV shows, bestselling video games, comics and so much more – now fans can access everything at their fingertips in a persistent, interactive and social experience.”
Features of the app include a keyboard with animated GIFs featuring a variety of characters, icons and images; fan giveaways and sweepstakes including a “The Dark Knight III: The Master Race” comic book signed by Frank Miller; an official news stream compiling all DC news in one place; and first looks and exclusive original videos and episodes of Web series “DC All Access,” which debuted in late 2013, hosted by Tiffany Smith and Jason Inman.
DC All Access also lets users purchase movie tickets and features a fan community that provides interaction though integrated social-media channels.
DC Entertainment, a division of Time Warner, encompasses DC Comics — home of Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and the Flash — Vertigo (Sandman, Fables) and MAD.
