Amy Schumer Takes Serious Turn In Thank You For Your Service
Hot off her acclaimed breakout performance in Trainwreck, Amy Schumer is taking a detour into drama. She has joined the cast of the DreamWorks Pictures adaptation of David Finkel’s book Thank You For Your Service, a film that has just gone into production. American Sniper scribe Jason Hall makes his directorial debut on his adapted script, in a film that stars Miles Teller (Whiplash), Haley Bennett (The Girl On The Train), Joe Cole (Peaky Blinders), Beulah Koale (The Last Saint), Scott Haze (Child Of God), Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider), Brad Beyer (42), Omar Dorsey (Selma) and Jayson Warner Smith (The Birth Of A Nation).
While Hall’s Oscar-nominated American Sniper script certainly delved into the toll that Post Traumatic Stress Disorder took on Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle, Thank You For Your Service puts a growing issue of national concern in the spotlight. The film follows a group of U.S. soldiers returning from Iraq who struggle to integrate back into family and civilian life, while living with the memory of a war that threatens to destroy them long after they’ve left the battlefield. Foxcatcher‘s Jon Kilik is producing and Love & Mercy‘s Ann Ruark is executive producer.
Production is just getting underway in Atlanta on the adaptation of Finkel’s book that was published in 2013 by Sarah Crichton Books. That imprint also published The Good Soldiers, an earlier book by Finkel where he embedded with the men of the 2-16 Infantry Battalion on the front lines in Baghdad.
Universal will distribute in the U.S. and select international territories while Mister Smith Entertainment is overseeing distribution in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. DreamWorks’ partner Reliance will distribute in India and DreamWorks partner Entertainment One releases in the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Australia and New Zealand.
