‘Mercy Street’ Headed To Amazon In Streaming Deal
The new Civil War drama Mercy Street is marching to Amazon with an exclusive SVOD deal. Amazon Prime subscribers in the U.S. will have access to episodes of the series seven days after they air on PBS. Episode 1 will be available on Amazon Video for free in the lead-up to Sunday’s series premiere.
Set in 1862 Virginia, the six-episode Mercy Street revolves around two volunteer nurses on opposite sides of the War Between the States: Mary Phinney (Mary Elizabeth Mercy Street, a staunch New England abolitionist, and Emma Green (Hannah James), a naive young Confederate belle. They collide at Mansion House, the Green family’s luxury hotel that has been taken over and transformed into a Union Army hospital in Alexandria, a Union-occupied border town. The intersection of North and South within the confines of a small occupied town creates a rich world that is chaotic, conflicted, corrupt, dynamic and even hopeful — a cauldron within which these characters strive, fight, love, laugh, betray, sacrifice and, at times, act like scoundrels.
Josh Radnor, Gary Cole, Norbert Leo Butz, Tara Summers, Peter Gerety and Anna Sophia Robb also star in the series executive produced by Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Lisa Q. Wolfinger and David Zabel.
“Prime members love PBS period dramas like Downton Abbey and Mr. Selfridge and fans of those great shows are going to really enjoy Mercy Street,” said Brad Beale, VP Digital Video Content Acquisition for Amazon. “Prime members have valued having in-season access to shows like Extant and Under The Dome, and we’re thrilled to provide even more in-season availability with PBS’ Mercy Street.”
