Mattel and Dolphin Entertainment are producing MaX Steel While Taylor Lautner is no longer attached, Mattel is still intent on getting its film adaptation of “Max Steel” off the ground, with a handful of actors and actresses testing for the title character and female lead. Noah Silver, Ben Winchell, Dylan Minnette are among the guys testing for Steel, while Skyler Samuels and Skyler Day are among the actresses testing for the female lead. Stewart Hendler is helming the pic. Dolphin Entertainment is producing with Mattel. Open Road will distribute. Story follows a teen who learns to harness his unusual power with the help of a mysterious alien. Mattel first introduced the toy in 1999 and while the action figures were successfully spun off as a Disney XD TV series, a film has had trouble getting off the ground. Joe Roth tried to launch one with Taylor Lautner attached to star but that film never made it into production. This time around the creative team is looking at an up-and-comer rather than a recognizable name. The UTA-repped Silver is best known for his work on “The Borgias” while the CESD-repped Minnette broke out this fall as Hugh Jackman’s son in “Prisoners. Samuels, who is repped by UTA, has been seen in ABC’s “The Gates” and ABC Family’s “The Nine Lives of Chloe King,” while the ICM Partners-repped Day is best known for her work on NBC’s “Parenthood.”
