Amazon Studios is developing a limited bio-series about the Grateful Dead, based on a book penned by one if its longtime roadies. The legendary band’s singer, guitarist and co-founder Bob Weir is executive producing along with Steve Parish, who penned the source memoir Home Before Daylight: My Life On The Road With The Grateful Dead. Weir will oversee all aspects of music for the untitled series. Bernie Cahill and ROAR also serve as executive producers on the project, and Stephen Emery is a co-EP. No writer is attached yet. Showtime has a similarly themed hourlong comedy series, Roadies, from Cameron Crowe and J.J. Abrams, which is set to debut next year. Twenty years after the death of its revered co-founder Jerry Garcia, the band returned to the stage this year for some 50th anniversary summer shows. The Fare Thee Well concerts kicked off with two in Santa Clara, CA, followed by three in Chicago, combining to gross an eye-reddening $52 million. The surviving members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group – Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart – were joined by devotee Trey Anastasio of Phish on guitar and frequent collaborator Bruce Hornsby on piano. Parish is repped by UTA and Hirsch, Wallerstein. Weir is with UTA and King, Holmes.
