‘Carol’ Scribe Phyllis Nagy To Pen ‘The Trap’ For Tristar
Phyllis Nagy, screenwriter of the buzzed Cate Blanchett-Rooney Mara pic Carol, has been tapped to adapt The Trap, the debut Melanie Raabe crime thriller that TriStar Pictures landed over the summer. The Cantillon Company’s Elizabeth Cantillon and Immersive Pictures’ Josh Bratman are producing.
The book, originally published in German as Die Falle, centers on Linda Conrads, a famous and reclusive writer who hasn’t left her home since her sister’s murder 12 years before. Believing she’s seen the killer on TV, she lures him to her house in an attempt to gain his confession. The book was a hot title at this year’s London Book Fair and is due in the U.S. next July.
Nagy’s Carol, based on the Patricia Highsmith novel The Price Of Salt, is set to bow in theaters November 20 via The Weinstein Company in the height of awards season. The longtime playwright’s other credits also include writing and directing HBO’s 2005 movie Mrs. Harris starring Annette Bening and Ben Kingsley. She is repped by UTA and Casarotto in the UK.
Cantillon has been busy since launching her production company in 2014 at Sony, where she had been an EVP. In addition to Concussion, which has its world premiere tonight at AFI Fest, she is producing the film adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s bestselling novel The Nightingale also for TriStar. She is also producing with Scott Rudin, Amy Pascal and Yellowbird The Girl In The Spider’s Web, the next Dragon Tattoo franchise pic.
