The future of the film has been in question since September, when the movie's producer, Edward R. Pressman, filed an objection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court to the inclusion of The Crow in Relativity's assets; the uncertain financial shape of the company put the movie at risk of losing its director. Hardy's holding deal is a clear sign of confidence in the production schedule for the movie. Production for the movie is set for March 2016, making it Relativity's first production since bankruptcy. This production schedule puts the company well ahead of any risk of rights for the property reverting to Pressman if principle filming hasn't begun by February 2017.
