Broad Green Hires Lionsgate Veteran Marc Danon as President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions
Danon will be responsible for building and leading Broad Green’s busy acquisitions team, with a focus on nabbing films for wide commercial release as well as prestige platform pre-buy opportunities.
Upstart distributor Broad Green Pictures has bolstered its ranks by poaching Lionsgate executive Marc Danon as president of acquisitions and co-productions.
Danon will be responsible for building and leading Broad Green’s busy acquisitions team, with a focus on nabbing films for wide commercial release as well as prestige platform pre-buy opportunities. He will also organize the studio’s festival acquisition strategy.
“Marc has an incredible history of acquiring standout films and building successful partnerships,” said Broad Green CEO Gabriel Hammond and chief creative officer Daniel Hammond. “More importantly, he’s an incredible person and we look forward to him bringing incredible stories to Broad Green.”
Added Danon: "Getting to know Gabriel and Daniel and seeing their vision for Broad Green has been such an exhilarating experience,” said Danon. “I’m thrilled to join a team where enthusiasm and passion for film is matched by such strong business building experience and where risk taking and innovation is encouraged."
Before joining Broad Green, Danon held the position of senior VP acquisitions and business development at Lionsgate. During his eight years at the studio, he worked on the acquisition of such films as Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain, John Wick, Dear White People, A Most Wanted Man, Everything Must Go and The Skeleton Twins.
He was instrumental in launching and programming Lionsgate's day-and-date theatrical with VOD initiative working on the acquisition and release plan for films including Margin Call, They Came Together and Dinosaur 13. Additionally, he built and managed third-party brands and partnerships for Lionsgate including Marvel, Saban Brands, WWE, Comcast, ABC, NBC, Codeblack and ITV.
Prior to Lionsgate, Danon held acquisitions posts at Netflix, Catch 23 Entertainment and Artisan Entertainment.
Launched in 2014, Broad Green has become an active player on the festival circuit, with such acquisitions as 99 Homes, A Walk in the Woods, Infiltrator, Samba, I Smile Back and Learning to Drive as well as Terrence Malick’s Knight Of Cups, Voyage of Time and the director's untitled project starring Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara and Michael Fassbender.
