USA Picks Up 1940s Hollywood Drama Pilot ‘Paradise Pictures’ From ‘Suits’ Duo
USA Network continues to experiment with drama settings, genres and timeframes, giving a pilot order to old Hollywood priod drama Paradise Pictures, written/executive produced by Suits scribe Rick Muirragui and executive produced by Suits creator/executive producer Aaron Korsh. Universal Cable Productions, where Korsh is under an overall deal, is the studio.
Paradise Pictures revolves around ambitious people striving to get to the top in 1940s Hollywood, when the dream factory was at its peak. Little do they know the challenges they’re about to face: the end of the studio monopolies, the blacklist and the new disruptive technology of television.
“Set against the backdrop of a dramatic transformation in the entertainment industry, Paradise Pictures delves into a world that has not yet been explored on television,” said USA SVP original series Alex Sepiol.
USA previously tested the period drama waters with the Gale Anne Hurd-produced pilot Horizon, which also was set in the 1940s and blended the backdrop of World War II with an alien invasion. Hurd is back in series contention at USA with a new pilot, the recently ordered supernatural thriller Falling Water. Additionally, USA has 2014 drama pilot Queen of the South still in contention.
The network also recently gave a pilot commitment to the action drama Shooter, based on the the novel by Stephen Hunter, Point of Impact, and the 2007 Paramount film whose star Mark Wahlberg is executive producing the series adaptation.
