‘American Sniper’ Producer Andrew Lazar Boards Sci-Fi Project
In a pre-Cannes announcement, “American Sniper” producer Andrew Lazar has come on board science-fiction thriller “Rupture” with Steven Shainberg directing.
Tango Pictures — a partnership between Christina Weiss Lurie, Shainberg and Lazar — is teaming with AMBI Group to produce. AMBI Distribution will handle sales and present the project in Cannes.
Shainberg’s credits include “Secretary,” “Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus” and “Hit Me.” He’ll direct from a Brian Nelson script, based on a story by Shainberg and Nelson (“Hard Candy”) about a single mother struggling to raise her son alone when she’s abducted by a mysterious organization.
Warner Bros. signed Lazar last month to a first-look deal through his Mad Chance production company. He recently set up “It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War,” with Jennifer Lawrence starring and Steven Spielberg directing, based on the memoir by international photojournalist Lynsey Addario.
Lazar is one of the five producers on “American Sniper,” along with Clint Eastwood, Bradley Cooper, Rob Lorenz and Peter Morgan. He first worked with Eastwood on 2000’s “Space Cowboys” for Warner Bros.
AMBI is a development, finance, production and distribution group owned and operated by Andrea Iervolino and Lady Monika Bacardi. It’s currently in production on James Franco’s “In Dubious Battle,” with a cast including Franco, Selena Gomez, Vincent D’Onofrio, Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, Bryan Cranston, Nat Wolff and Josh Hutcherson.
