deadline.com/2015/03/shadowhunters-tv-series-abc-family-mortal-instruments-1201401266/‘Mortal Instruments’ Series ‘Shadowhunters’ Lands At ABC Family Shadowhunters, the TV series based on Cassandra Clare’s YA fantasy book series The Mortal Instruments, has found a U.S. home: ABC Family has acquired rights to the series, a spinoff of the 2013 feature film The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones. The project officially was announced at Mipcom last fall, when the film’s producer Constantin Film revealed the TV plans and tapped veteran writer/executive producer Ed Decter as showrunner. With a U.S. outlet locked, Shadowhunters will go into production in May in Toronto. Based on Clare’s bestsellers, the series will reboot the chronicle of the Shadowhunters led by Clary Fray and Jace Wayland in one-hour episodes beginning with the first book, City Of Bones, and expanding into later books as the series progresses. No cast has been set. “Shadowhunters is a big epic saga that will resonate with viewers who come to ABC Family for the Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Twilight franchises,” said Ascheim. “A New York Times bestseller for 122 consecutive weeks, with over 35 million copies in print worldwide, Shadowhunters is the perfect story to share with our audience.” Screen Gems released the City Of Bones movie with franchise intentions in August 2013. But despite the books’ devoted following the pic made just $31.2M domestically and about $90M globally. Constantin said it would go ahead with a second pic, City Of Ashes, which was set to being principal photography in September 2013. But that date was scrapped to “reposition the film in the current market place,” and now the series looks like it will get first position with its May shooting date.

Sherwood starred in “Vampire Academy” and is also known for being featured in Taylor Swift’s “Style” video. The supernatural series follows 18-year-old Clary Fray (yet to be cast), who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is, and that she comes from a long line of Shadowhunters, human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. variety.com/2015/tv/news/shadowhunters-cast-alberto-rosende-emeraude-toubia-simon-isabelle-1201485678/ABC Family’s ‘Shadowhunters’ Finds Simon & Isabelle for ‘Mortal Instruments’ Series ABC Family’s “Shadowhunters” saga series is filling out. Alberto Rosende and Emeraude Toubia have been cast as Simon and Isabelle, Variety has learned. The two actors join Dominic Sherwood, who will play Jace, whose leading lady, Clary Fray, is yet to be cast. Simon, intelligent and very handsome in a non-calculated kind of way, is Clary’s longtime best friend. An accounting student by day, Simon spends his free time performing in a band. His loyalty and feelings for Clary are tested as he fights alongside her on an epic journey. Isabelle is an exotic-looking, beautiful Shadowhunter. An expert with her whip, and a trained fighter who can kill it in high heels, she’s just as lethal as she is attractive. Her one weakness, however, is her choice in men, as she always goes for the bad boy. Based on the bestselling “Mortal Instruments” books by Cassandra Clare, the supernatural series follows 18-year-old Clary, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is, and that she actually comes from a long line of Shadowhunters — human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When Clary’s mother, Jocelyn, is kidnapped, she is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace (Sherwood) and her best friend, Simon (Rosende). Living among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves, Clary begins a journey of self-discovery as she learns more about her past and what her future may hold. The project marks the cabler’s first-ever “saga-to-series,” hoping to find a loyal audience in ABC Family viewers who already tune into the network for franchises “Twilight,” “Harry Potter” and “The Hunger Games.” “Shadowhunters” is produced by Constantin Film and exec produced by Ed Decter and McG, who will direct the first episode. No premiere date has been set, but the series goes into production this month.

When her mother Jocelyn is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace (Dominic Sherwood) and her best friend Simon (Alberto Rosende). Now living among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves, Clary begins a journey of self-discovery as she learns more about her past and what her future may hold. Daddario will play Alec Lightwood, who joins Jace and his sister, Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia), in their pursuit of demonic creatures. He’s tortured by his romantic love for Jace, who is his adoptive brother and fighting partner. The eldest of the group, his strict moral code forces him to follow the law to the letter. Mustafa is Luke Garroway, an NYPD detective investigating a string of “demonic” murders. Luke feels a fatherly instinct to protect Clary, a strong affection for Jocelyn and has secrets of his own. Once a strong and powerful Shadowhunter, he has since become the thing he once hated most – a werewolf pack leader.
