The Best Man franchise director Malcolm D. Lee signed on to direct and they are making deals with Queen Latifah and Nicki Minaj among those in talks to round out the ensemble. Cube Vision is producing. MGM will run production and New Line will release the film. Bob Teitel and George Tillman Jr. of State Street Pictures are the lead producers. Script is by Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver. The first two films were released by MGM. The original grossed $75 million domestic in 2002 and the 2004 sequel grossed $65 million domestic.

The Black-ish star will reprise his role as JD, the troubled ATM thief whose crimes nearly caused the closure of the titular shop in the original film. JD was arrested at the end of Barbershop, and subsequently Anderson didn’t appear in Barbershop 2. In addition, Think Like A Man‘s Regina Hall and New Girl star Lamorne Morris are in talks to appear in the film. This continues a wave of casting hires for the production over the last week. In addition to returning stars Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer, Deon Cole and now Anderson, Barbershop 3 recently added Oscar award-winning rapper Common, and Nicki Minaj and Queen Latifah are also said to be in talks to appear. The film is directed by Malcolm D. Lee from a script by Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver. Cube Vision is producing through MGM, with Bob Teitel and George Tillman Jr of State Street Pictures on as lead producers.

Bob Teitel and George Tillman Jr. of State Street Pictures are the lead producers. Malcolm D. Lee, who directed Hall in the “Best Man” movies, is directing “Barbershop 3″ from a script by Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver. Hall will play Angie, the woman in charge of the beauty shop portion of the barbershop. The original 2002 film, directed by Tim Story and set in Chicago, starred Cube and Anthony Anderson. The 2004 sequel “Barbershop 2: Back in Business” featured the same cast, with Kevin Rodney Sullivan directing. The two “Barbershop” films combined for about $140 million in worldwide box office. Hall was recently be seen in Jim Strouse’s “People, Places and Things,” which premiered at Sundance and was recently acquired by the Film Arcade. She will be seen next in Warner Bros.’ “Vacation” sequel and in Screen Gems/Sony’s “When the Bough Breaks.” Hall is repped by ICM Partners, Principato-Young and Stone Meyer.
