The announcement was just made at the end of AHS‘ PaleyFest panel, in which Jessica Lange, star of the the first four installments, officially confirmed that she is leaving the franchise and Cheyenne Jackson too was unveiled as a new cast member. Bomer will play a lead in AHS: Hotel, with details about his character kept under wraps. Asked about his character’s relation to Lady Gaga’s character, he said, “I can’t confirm or deny that there might be a love interest.” This marks Bomer’s return to the AHS franchise after a guest starring stint in the most recent Freak Show installment. Bomer has a long history with Murphy – the actor won a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice TV Award for his role in Murphy’s HBO movie The Normal Heart. He also guest starred on Murphy’s Fox series Glee (also co-created by Falchuk) and NBC comedy The New Normal. This marks Bomer’s first major TV gig since wrapping his six-season starring turn on USA’s White Collar. He will next be seen reprising his role in the Magic Mike sequel Magic Mike XXL. American Horror Story is produced by 20th Century Fox Television.

The cast of “AHS” made the announcement at the end of its Paleyfest panel. The plot details of their characters are being kept under wraps, with Bomer playing one of the leads. “I love collaborating with Ryan Murphy,” said Bomer. “It feels like this world where there are no bounds.” Update, 3/17: Creator Ryan Murphy announced via Twitter that Wes Bentley will also join the cast of “Hotel” as a series regular. Bomer previously guest starred on the “Freak Show” season of the series. He could neither confirm nor deny any romantic relationship between he and Gaga’s character. Bomer also worked with “AHS” creator Murphy on his shows “The New Normal” and “Glee,” where Bomer played Darren Criss’ character’s older brother, as well as HBO’s “Normal Heart,” for which Bomer won a Golden Globe. Jackson has also worked with Murphy, guest starring on “Glee.” He also appeared in “30 Rock” and films “Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks” and “United 93.” Bentley previously appeared on “Freak Show” as Edward Mordrake. He’s best known for his roles in “The Hunger Games” and “American Beauty” and is currently filming Disney’s “Pete’s Dragon” remake. Also on the PaleyFest panel, Jessica Lange confirmed she wouldn’t be returning for the next installment of the horror franchise. “American Horror Story: Hotel,” produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television, will begin production on the 13-episode season in the late summer and premiere on FX in October.
