Deutch was VP of programming partnerships at Hearst Entertainment from 2001 to 2006, where he was responsible for the development of TV programming in conjunction with the company’s brands. His hiring comes after Hearst acquired a 25% stake in AwesomenessTV for $81.5 million from DreamWorks Animation in December. DWA acquired AwesomenessTV, founded by Brian Robbins, in May 2013 for $33 million with an additional $84 million in potential earn-out fees. “AwesomenessTV has had great success working with leading brands to build entertaining programming that engages our core teen audience,” AwesomenessTV president Brett Bouttier said in a statement. “Jim is a very talented producer and a great, creative guy — his addition to our team positions us well to do even more top-notch shows with our brand partners.” In addition to Hearst, Deutch has worked in TV and film, serving as creator and executive producer of series and feature films including NBC’s “Fashion Star,” E!’s “Fashion Week,” Bravo’s “Tabloid Wars,” MTV’s “Miss Seventeen,” CNBC’s “Conversations with Michael Eisner” and Lionsgate’s “The Rules of Attraction.” In addition, he has produced projects with brands that include General Motors, SC Johnson, Home Depot, H&M, Macy’s, Ethan Allen and Express.
