variety.com/2015/film/news/tate-taylor-to-direct-uss-indianapolis-project-for-team-downey-1201416327/Tate Taylor to Direct USS Indianapolis Project for Team Downey Tate Taylor will direct Warner Bros.’ untitled drama about the sinking of the USS Indianapolis, with Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey producing through their Team Downey banner. Mike Jones will write the script for the aftermath story of the 1945 sinking of the battleship in shark-infested Pacific waters. Warner Bros. set up the long-in-development project in 2011 by acquiring life rights to Hunter Scott, who helped exonerate the court-martialed captain of the Indianapolis, and set it up at Team Downey. The project first went into development in 1998 at Universal when Scott was 13 — two years after he’d begun research for a school history project that led to a re-examination of the case of Capt. Charles McVeigh, the only captain to be court-martialed for the sinking of his ship during WWII. The ship was torpedoed by a Japanese sub shortly after delivering parts for the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey and David Gambino are producing. Jon Berg and Nik Mavinkurve are overseeing for Warner Bros. Taylor’s credits include “The Help” and “Get On Up.” Jones’ Black List script “In the Event of a Moon Disaster” is set at FilmNation. Taylor is repped by CAA and Lichter, Grossman. Jones is repped by CAA, Gotham Group, and Jackoway Tyerman. The news about Taylor was first reported by Deadline.com.
