variety.com/2015/film/news/michelle-darnelle-release-date-melissa-mccarthy-1201393082/Melissa McCarthy’s ‘Michelle Darnelle’ to Replace ‘Clifford the Big Red Dog’ for April 8, 2016 Universal has set Melissa McCarthy’s comedy “Michelle Darnelle” for an April 8, 2016, release — replacing “Clifford the Big Red Dog” in the slot. McCarthy will portray a titan of industry who goes to prison for insider trading. She finds that when she emerges, ready to rebrand herself as America’s latest sweetheart, not everyone she screwed over is so quick to forgive and forget. “Michelle Darnell” will be directed by McCarthy’s husband, Ben Falcone, from a script written by McCarthy and Falcone alongside their Groundlings collaborator Steve Mallory. McCarthy and Falcone are also producing through their On the Day Productions with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay through their Gary Sanchez Productions. Focus has also dated Jesse Owens biopic “Race” for April 8, 2016. Universal has not given another date to “Clifford.”

variety.com/2015/film/news/peter-dinklake-michelle-darnell-casting-melissa-mccarthy-1201407638/Peter Dinklage to Star with Melissa McCarthy in ‘Michelle Darnell’ Peter Dinklage has joined Melissa McCarthy in the Universal comedy “Michelle Darnell.” Ben Falcone is directing. The script, which is based on an original character created by McCarthy, will be penned by Falcone, McCarthy and Steve Mallory. The story follows a titan of industry who is sent to prison after she’s caught for insider trading. When she emerges ready to rebrand herself as America’s latest sweetheart, not everyone she screwed over is so quick to forgive and forget. While details are vague on what the role is, sources say Dinklage would be playing the antagonist in the pic. Universal has gone back and forth on whether the role should be a male or female, caring more about a landing a star who can chew up every scene he or she is in. The studio had also considered Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm and even Oprah Winfrey for the role. Falcone and McCarthy are also producing through their On the Day Productions, along with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay their Gary Sanchez Productions. Senior vice president of production Erik Baiers and creative executive Chloe Yellin will oversee the project for Universal. Gary Sanchez’s Chris Henchy will also produce and Kevin Messick will serve as executive producer. The film has been dated for April 8, 2016. Though he is best known for his Emmy-winning portrayal of Tyrion Lannister on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” Dinklage has kept busy on the film side during the show’s hiatus with “X-Men: Days of Future Past” bowing last summer and “Pixels” with Adam Sandler debuting in July. He is repped by CAA, Insight and Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein.
