from www.deadline.comLegendary pushed back its fantasy actioner Skull Island and gave it a clearer title — now it’s Kong: Skull Island, in case you didn’t know which King of the movie apes called the primordial paradise home — as the company shuffled some tentpole dates around today. The origin tale is set on the fictional island home of King Kong, where a team of explorers led by Tom Hiddleston wade into the treacherous jungle in what Legendary describes as a “new, distinct timeline” within the iconic beast’s canon. Helmed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings Of Summer), the 3D and IMAX 3D pic is moving from November 4, 2016, to March 10, 2017. Meanwhile, Legendary and Universal have slotted into the Thanksgiving 2016 frame Zhang Yimou’s anticipated Untitled Great Wall Project, which will open stateside that Wednesday, Novermber 23, also in 3D and IMAX 3D. The story of an elite force making a last stand for humanity along China’s Great Wall marks the Hero and House Of Flying Daggers director’s English-language debut; a December 2016 Chinese release is planned.

deadline.com/2014/12/jk-simmons-kong-skull-island-whiplash-1201325680/‘Whiplash’s J.K. Simmons To Star In ‘Kong: Skull Island’ J.K. Simmons, the journeyman actor who’s hot as a pistol after his turn in the Damien Chazelle-directed Whiplash, has been set to join Tom Hiddleston in Kong: Skull Island, the Legendary Pictures tent pole that Universal Pictures has set for March 10,2017 release. Jordan Vogt-Roberts is directing a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein that focuses on the wild island home of the iconic ape King Kong. Gersh-repped Simmons seems an easy guy to root for. He has turned in great performances of every stripe for years, so good as the patient father of a pregnant teen daughter in Juno, and so deliciously evil as cellmate from hell Vern Schillinger in HBO’s Oz. Playing the taskmaster trying to coax greatness out of a young drummer (Miles Teller) in Whiplash, he has got Oscar heat and has been on the radar since the film premiered in Sundance last January. Skull Island‘s produced by Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni, with Alex Garcia exec producing.

variety.com/2015/film/news/michael-keaton-kong-skull-island-casting-1201395315/Michael Keaton in Talks for ‘Kong: Skull Island’ “Birdman” star Michael Keaton is in negotiations to join “Kong: Skull Island” for Universal and Legendary. The King Kong origins project is set to open on March 10, 2017, and will be released in 3D. The studio and Legendary unveiled “Skull Island” during Comic-Con in July, then disclosed in September that Tom Hiddleston was on board to star with Jordan Vogt-Roberts directing. Universal decided last month to move “Skull Island” back four months and brought on J.K. Simmons to co-star. John Gatins (“Flight”) and Max Borenstein (“Godzilla”) wrote the script, about a team of explorers who venture deep inside the primordial island that is King Kong’s home. Legendary said the story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore created in the iconic 1933 film. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce; Alex Garcia exec produces. Keaton is repped by ICM and Anonymous Content. The news was first reported by Deadline. UPDATE, 8:58 p.m. – Keaton’s deal has closed.

deadline.com/2015/07/michael-keaton-j-k-simmons-kong-skull-island-king-kong-jurassic-world-1201466254/Michael Keaton and JK Simmons Exit Legendary’s ‘Kong: Skull Island’ Michael Keaton and JK Simmons have both exited Legendary Pictures’ Kong: Skull Island. Scheduling conflicts are believed to be the principal reason behind both actors’ ankling. The project, which has Jordan Vogt-Roberts directing from a script written by John Gatins and Max Borenstein, pushed back its production start by a few weeks from the fall to before the end of the year. That, and the fact that it is likely to be a demanding shoot in terms of time, didn’t march up their other commitments. Tom Hiddlestone remains on-board. Legendary is currently out to cast to replace both actors pronto and does not envisage any delays to getting principal going by the tail end of 2015. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni produce with Alex Garcia, and Eric McLeod is exec producing. Universal Pictures will release the King Kong-inspired film in 3D and IMAX 3D on March 10, 2017. The filmmakers have been promising Kong: Skull Island will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the iconic ape as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island. Given the giant box office takings of Jurassic World, Universal will be hoping this reboot can deliver some more monster grosses of its own. Keaton is repped by ICM and Anonymous Content. He stars in Thomas McCarthy’s Catholic Church child-abuse drama Spotlight and also voiced a role in Illumination Entertainment’s animated Minions. He is filming The Founder for director John Lee Hancock. Simmons is repped by The Gersh Agency. The much-in demand actor has Lorene Scafaria’s The Meddler, Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant and Kung Fu Panda 3 in the pipelines.
