“I contacted the event coordinators, Mark Hlava and Doug Brantley, who were looking for someone to design the poster for the event,” Force said.
“As a fan of the convention scene myself, I began doing research, talking to potential guests and booking entertainment,” he said. “I have my own business doing digital art and portraits, so I felt it was right up my alley. From there, we began hitting the books, making more calls and adding cool features to make this one of the biggest fundraising events in the Golden Isles.”
Not only did the organizers see a need to create Jekyll Comic Con, but they also wanted to make sure to give back to the community, as well.
“The main reason, and the reason that drives us the most throughout this venture, is that proceeds from this event will benefit The Wounded Warrior Project and Shriners Hospitals for Children,” Force said. “We estimate an attendance of 800 or more.”
Jekyll Comic Con is offering a wide variety of entertainment.
“So far, we’ve put together 22 panels and even the screening of the soon-to-be-released indie film ‘Back in Red and Black: Deadpool & Black Panther.’ We have local filmmaker Brandon Herron with his film ‘The Man Who Would Not Shake Hands’ based on the Stephen King story.
“Manga fans will have an excellent anime panel with Dige Force, Jon Fisher and Jacob Brantley. Steampunk fans can expect a great panel with steampunk author Winfield H. Strock III,” Force said. “We’ll also have The Traveling Imperial Medicine Show doing a panel about the history of the sideshow and also doing live sideshow acts with fire eating, a bed of nails and many other fantastical feats.”
Jekyll Comic Con After Dark begins at 9 p.m., with DJ Rozotron and a live show with renowned nerdcore artist and former black-hat hacker YTCracker. The ticket price includes all of these events and more, according to Force.
“Many of the people attending will be first-time con goers, and we aim to welcome them into the exciting world of conventions and cosplay. We welcome all ages to the event, and children 4 and under get in free,” he said.
“We look forward to seeing everyone there, forming new friendships and celebrating the fandom!”
