Sets Gerard Butler’s ‘Geostorm’ for Oct. 21, 2016 Warner Bros. has dated Gerard Butler’s “Geostorm” for Oct. 21, 2016 — filling the slot vacated due to its decision to push “Jungle Book: Origins” back to 2017. “Geostorm” is the feature directorial debut of Dean Devlin, who teamed with Roland Emmerich to produce 1996’s “Independence Day.” Shooting started earlier this fall. Devlin’s Electric Entertainment is producing “Geostorm” with Skydance Productions. Producers are Devlin, Skydance’s David Ellison and Dana Goldberg and Electric Entertainment’s Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan. Warner Bros. picked up the project after Skydance developed it. Devlin also wrote “Geostorm,” which centers on a satellite designer who tries to prevent disaster when the world’s climate control satellites fail to function. Universal has an untitled Blumhouse horror film set for the same slot.
