Factory, the multi-platform distributor, has picked up all North American rights to children’s cartoon feature “Maya The Bee Movie.” The company plans a 2015 rollout in select theaters, video-on-demand, subscription video-on-demand (SVoD), electronic-sell-through (EST), television and in all packaged media. The film is an Australian-German co-production involving Studio 100 Media and Buzz Studios in association with Flying Bark Productions. Directed by Alexs Stadermann, it is produced by Patrick Elmendorff and Thorsten Wegener (Studio 100 Media), Jim Ballantine and Barbara Stephen (Buzz Studios). “The worldwide sales of the movie to more than 100 countries illustrate the continuous popularity of this well-known and much-loved brand and the rising demand for great family entertainment,” said Elmendorff, CEO of Munich-based Studio 100 Media. Releases have already taken place in Germany, South Korea and Poland. Shout! Factory has recently acquired rights to cult Japanese director Miike Takashi’s “Over Your Dead Body,” action crime drama “Brazilian Western,” and Mathias Malzieu and Stephane Berla’s “Jack And The Cuckoo-Clock Heart,” a whimsical and romantic period cartoon which premiered in Berlin.
