Stacey Snider to Be Named 20th Century Fox Co-Chairman as Start Date Nears
In a sign that Stacey Snider is preparing for life after DreamWorks, the executive has visited the 20th Century Fox studio lot to check out her new office space and introduce herself to the leaders of Fox Searchlight, according to people familiar with the matter.
By next week, Snider is expected to be extricated from her contract with DreamWorks, though an official start date at Fox is still pending. Snider will be named co-chairman of 20th Century Fox, serving as top lieutenant to Fox chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos. In her new role, Snider will be responsible for providing creative oversight of the studio’s various movie divisions.
Last week Snider toured her new executive suite in Fox’s historic administration building which is right down the hall from Gianopulos. The office, which was most recently occupied by now-departed marketing executive Tony Sella, is being reconfigured for Snider, sources said.
While she was on the studio’s Century City lot, Snider stopped by Fox Searchlight’s office to meet co-presidents Nancy Utley and Stephen Gilula for the first time. (She already knows Fox Searchlight production president Claudia Lewis).
Snider is expected to begin working at Fox in the coming weeks after she signs documents allowing her to leave DreamWorks ahead of the expiration of her contract in early January, said people with knowledge of the situation.
Now that Steven Spielberg has named former Turner executive Michael Wright to replace Snider as DreamWorks CEO, the executive has been busy unwinding her partnership agreement with Spielberg and the company’s financial partner Reliance. Because Snider is an officer of DreamWorks, which has a distribution deal with Walt Disney Studios, her departure prompted an extension of the company’s multipicture pact with the Burbank studio, according to a person involved in the matter.
Snider, who previously ran two other studios, Universal Pictures and TriStar Pictures, joined DreamWorks in 2006.
Snider and Fox officials declined to comment for this story.
