Lifetime Orders ‘Women of the Bible’ Special from Roma Downey, Mark Burnett
Lifetime is looking for divine intervention to bring a large aud to its Dec. 7 miniseries “The Red Tent.” The cabler has set a two-hour “The Women of the Bible” special produced by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett to air as the lead-in to the mini set in Biblical times.
The special will tell the stories of prominent women in the Bible, blended with interviews of contemporary femme faith leaders. Downey will narrate the special, to be produced by Downey’s LightWorkers Media, a unit of Burnett and Downey’s United Artists Media Group banner.
Burnett and Downey previously produced the boffo “The Bible” mini drew huge auds for History last year, and also aired in reruns on Lifetime. The two-hour special is likely to feed a big crowd into the first half of “Red Tent,” based on the novel revolving around the lives of four women in Old Testament times. The second half of the mini airs Dec. 8.
“Women of the Bible” will examine the stories of Eve, Sara, Rehab, Mary Magdalene and Mother Mary and feature interviews with Christine Caine and Priscilla Shirer, co-founders of Going Beyond Ministries; Victoria Osteen, co-Pastor of Lakewood Church; Eva Rodriguez of the Latino Evangelical Women’s Assn; Kay Warren, co-founder of Saddleback Church; and Bible teacher Joyce Meyer.
“Women of the Bible” is the latest in a stream of projects coming from Burnett and Downey since the two set the United Artists Media Group partnership with MGM and Hearst Corp. Downey is set to host a series for TLC next year revolving around stories from people who believe they witnessed real-life miracles.
