Broad Green Pictures Nabs North American Rights to ‘Eden’
“Eden,” a chronicle of the rise of the electronic dance movement in Paris, will bust a move on this side of the Atlantic.
Broad Green Pictures (BGP) has nabbed North American distribution rights to the film following its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, where the company also acquired “99 Homes” and “Samba.” A spring 2015 release is planned.
The picture comes courtesy of director Mia Hansen-Løve (“Father of My Children”) and was co-written with her brother Sven Hansen-Løve, whose life among the club-goers inspired the film. The international cast features Félix de Givry, Pauline Etienne, Vincent Macaigne, Brady Corbet and Greta Gerwig.
The film follows a teenager (de Givry) as he navigates the underground rave scene in the 1990s era “city of light.” Sex, drugs and pulsating music are guaranteed.
In a review in Variety, Andrew Barker compared the picture to “Inside Llewyn Davis” and wrote, “Admittedly a bit overlong, and simultaneously deepened and distanced by its director’s characteristic emotional reserve, this gorgeously photographed, gently poignant film should still attract plenty of arthouse attention both in France and the U.S.”
The deal for “Eden” was negotiated by Grégoire Melin and Ram Murali of Kinology on behalf of the filmmakers, and by Broad Green Pictures executives Asher Goldstein and Shawn Xu.
