USA Network’s “Complications” has commenced production in Atlanta, Ga., adding four recurring players alongside series regulars Jason O’Mara, Jessica Szohr, Beth Riesgraf and Lauren Stamile, Variety has learned exclusively. Above, check out an exclusive first-look image of O’Mara and Szohr from the medical drama.
The 10-episode original series from “Burn Notice” creator Matt Nix is set to premiere in 2015, and centers around John Ellison (O’Mara), a disillusioned suburban ER doctor who finds his existence transformed when he intervenes in a drive-by shooting, saving a young boy’s life and killing one of his attackers. When Ellison learns the boy is the son of an influential gang leader and is still a target, he is compelled to save him at any cost. Ellison soon discovers that his own life — and his outlook on medicine — may never be the same.
Joining the cast are Chris Chalk as Darius, the liaison between John and a gang that needs his help; Tim Peper as Kyle Hawkins, a lawyer in the District Attorney’s office and friend of Samantha (Riesgraf); Eric Edelstein as Jed, a friend and help to Gretchen (Szohr); and Ronreaco Lee as Quentin Bell, John’s fellow ER doctor.
Szohr stars as Gretchen, a reckless but capable ER nurse; Riesgraf appears as John’s wife, Samantha, and Stamile plays John’s by-the-book coworker, Dr. Bridget O’Neil, who finds herself dealing with the aftermath of his actions.
“‘Complications’ is a story about the making of a hero — how an ordinary doctor’s split-second decision changes the course of his life and the lives of everyone around him,” said Nix. “It’s tremendous to be working with USA again and with such a talented cast. The writers’ room is going strong and I cannot wait for audiences to see this new series.”
The series hails from Fox Television Studios. Nix serves as executive producer and directed of the pilot. Michael Horowitz will serve as co-executive producer.
Chalk is repped by Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Stone Manners Salners; Peper is repped by Paradigm; Edelstein is repped by UTA and 3 Arts Entertainment; Lee is repped by APA and Principato-Young Entertainment.
