Welcome to our live coverage of NXT Takeover II from Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL. We're looking for your thoughts on tonight's show, so you can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to dave@wrestlingobserver.com.
THE ASCENSION VS. SIN CARA & KALISTO FOR NXT TAG TITLES
Sin Cara & Kalisto, who are now the Lucha Dragons, with the idea of getting fans to chant Lucha, which comes off like a lame chant, won the titles when Kalisto pinned Viktor with the Salida del Sol, which is a sliced bread. They played this up like a super upset. Match was okay, some sloppiness including a botched Toyota roll by Kalisto on Viktor. Sin Cara did a tope on Konnor. Kalisto went for a plancha, but both men caught him and gave him a fallaway on the ramp. The idea was for him to land on his feet but he stumbled. Sin Cara did another tope on both. Sin Cara pulled Konnor out of the ring when they set up the high-low, and Kalisto got the pin.
C.J. PARKER VS. BARON CORBIN
Corbin won in 29 seconds with a delayed downward spiral. Obviously they are going to give Corbin a push. They are saying he's "almost 7 feet tall," which is I guess what somebody who looked about 6-foot-5 is these days.
SYLVESTER LEFORT VS. ENZO AMORE HAIR VS. HAIR
Amore won with a rolling reverse cradle holding the trunks. Not much of a match. Amore & Big Cass are over in the building.
Lefort tried to run away but Cass clotheslined him. Louis attacked Cass. Lefort ran away and left Louis. High kick by Cass on Louis. Cass said, "Enzo get the bucket," like a Dudleys deal. He poured the bucket on Louis. Louis ran off.
KENTA was introduced by General Manager William Regal, who called him the biggest international signing in the history of WWE. His new name is Hideo Itami. So much for keeping the name. He spoke some English and some Japanese. He said his goal was to win the NXT title. The Ascension came out and threw him out of the ring and demanded a tag title rematch. Itami ran in, kicked both out of the ring, and when they tried to come in, threw a dropkick that knocked both out of the ring. The fans chanted "KENTA."
MOJO RAWLEY VS. BULL DEMPSEY
Dempsey won in 1:00 with a diving head-butt. Before the finish, he ran through Rawley and busted his eye. After the match Dempsey gave Rawley another diving head-butt. This is clearly a push for Dempsey to be in the title picture.
Backsage, Enzo & Cass wanted to see somebody bald. They found Louis and Lefort ran away again. Cass attacked him and carried a towel covered Louis into the ring. Cass gave him a reverse atomic drop and Amore pulled the towel off his head. Louis had a lttle bit of hair but mostly no hair and no eyebrows. Amore said Louis is "BAWLD, Bald."
CHARLOTTE VS. BAYLEY FOR WOMEN'S TITLE
Charlotte retained the title with a moonsault, where Charlotte landed too soft, and then followed with the neck snapper for the pin. Nothing like the Natalya match, but better than 90-95% of women's matches on the main roster. Well paced and the crowd popped huge when Bayley used a Frankensteiner off the top. Crowd was into it as well.
Sasha Banks came out and started taunted Bayley and attacked her. Charlotte then made the save for Bayley by pulling Banks off.
They announced Hideo Itami (KENTA) will be wrestling on TV next week, which is being taped tomorrow night.
ADRIAN NEVILLE VS. TYLER BREEZE VS. SAMI ZAYN VS. TYSON KIDD FOR NXT TITLE
Neville retained with the red arrow on Kidd after Zayn had used the running kick into the corner and Zayn had the match won but Neville pulled the ref out of the ring. This was a super match, one of the best WWE matches of the year. Really well laid out as everybody had their chance to look great and look like they should have won. Breeze did a sequence where he laid everyone out. Kidd had Breeze in the sharpshooter and Breeze was about to tap but Neville ran in and grabbed Breeze's hand so he couldn't tap. I mean you can say I quit but it's still really clever.
There was a spot Kidd and Breeze were both on the top to do a double superplex on Neville, but Zayn got underneath and power bombed Kid and Breeze and Zayn went flying. Zayn at the finish did a tope on Neville and and the dive through two sets of ropes into a DDT on Breeze on the floor. The show was really nothing close to the previuos shows until the main event, but this was the best main event they've done to date.
