variety.com/2014/tv/news/history-texas-rising-release-date-1201282989/History’s “Texas Rising,” detailing the Texas Revolution and the rise of the Texas Rangers, will premiere Memorial Day, May 25. The eight-hour event series from exec producer Leslie Greif (“Hatfields and McCoys”) stars Bill Paxton as Texas legend Sam Houston and follows his fight for Texas’ independence against Mexican general Santa Anna. “The Killing Fields” helmer Roland Joffe directs. Greif’s previous series for History, the Paxton and Kevin Costner-starring “Hatfields and McCoys,” set ratings records for the channel. “We’re ecstatic with what we’ve seen so far from production,” said Dirk Hoogstra, History and H2 exec VP and general manager. “I can’t think of a better way to kick off summer than with a big television event that’s sure to resonate with our fans.” The series cast includes Kris Kristofferson as Andrew Jackson, as well as Brendan Fraser, Ray Liotta, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Thomas Jane, Olivier Martinez, Chad Michael Murray and Jeremy Davies. “Texas Rising” is produced by A+E Studios and ITV Studios America in association with Greif’s Thinkfactory Media.

variety.com/2015/tv/news/history-expands-texas-rising-miniseries-to-10-hours-1201472200/History Expands ‘Texas Rising’ Miniseries to 10 Hours The History miniseries “Texas Rising,” set to bow on Memorial Day, has been expanded to 10 hours and will air over the course of five weeks, the network announced on Tuesday. The series, which details the Texas Revolution and the rise of the legendary Texas Rangers, will air two-hour installments on both Memorial Day (May 25) and the next night (Tuesday, May 26). Its final six hours will then be played out over the next three Mondays (June 1, 8 and 15). It had originally been planned as a six-hour series. Roland Joffe is directing “Texas Rising,” whose all-star cast includes Bill Paxton, Brendan Fraser, Ray Liotta and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It is produced by A+E Studios, ITV Studios America and Thinkfactory Media. Leslie Greif serves as executive producer. Dirk Hoogstra and Julian P. Hobbs serve as executives in charge of production. History is hoping ratings magic can strike twice with Paxton and another event series set in the South. Paxton played the leader of the McCoy family in the network’s blockbuster 2012 miniseries “Hatfields & McCoys.”

deadline.com/2015/05/texas-rising-premiere-ratings-history-1201433063/‘Texas Rising’ Premieres To 4.1 Million Viewers On History History’s ’s 10-hour event series Texas Rising drew 4.1 million total viewers and 1.1 million adults 25-54 for its two-hour opener last night. That is a solid Live+same day performance in this day and age, though it fell short of the previous History miniseries from the same producers that launched on Memorial Day three years ago — the ratings record-breaker Hatfields & McCoys, which drew 13.9 million viewers and 5.8 million adults 25-54 for its premiere. Texas Rising, which was backed up by a similarly massive marketing campaign built around its stars, including Hatfields & McCoy‘s Bill Paxton, also was way below the start of History’s 2013 limited series The Bible (13.1 million) but has out-rated any cable miniseries/limited series since. It edged History’s most recent effort, Bonnie & Clyde (3.7 million) though that mini aired simultaneously on three A+E networks, garnering a total of 9.8 million pairs of eyeballs for its debut. Texas Rising, which details the Texas Revolution and rise of the legendary Texas Rangers, ranks as the second most watched cable premiere this year behind AMC’s Better Call Saul. It follows a different pattern than Hatfield & McCoys, with its second two-hour part airing tonight and the remaining 3 parts slated to run weekly, beginning next Monday. Texas Rising, whose cast also includes Brendan Fraser, Ray Liotta and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, is produced by A+E Studios, ITV Studios America and Thinkfactory Media, with Leslie Greif executive producing and Roland Joffe directing.
