With Guardians of the Galaxy in theatres now and defying some naysayers, actor Vin Diesel is back on social media once again possibly hinting at involvement in another Marvel project. Weeks before Diesel was announced as the voice-actor for Guardians of the Galaxy's Groot, Diesel talked fairly openly about his negotiations with Marvel and even hinting at his future role. But now he's on Facebook seemingly teasing a second role for the long-time comics fan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"Vin and Marvel… you all made it happen! I get the strange feeling that Marvel thinks I’m Inhuman… Haha.”
Note the capitalization of the word "Inhuman" in Diesel's statement. Diesel's known to be fairly grammatical on his social media postings, and also super-savvy when it comes to promotion, leading some to believe Diesel is hinting that he's in negotiations with Marvel to be an Inhuman. In Marvel lore, Inhumans are a splinter race of humans endowed with special abilities due to alien experimentations centuries ago. Originally created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee in the pages of Fantastic Four in 1965, the concept has recently had renewed interest in comics with a highly-promoted new comic series titled Inhuman by Charles Soule, Joe Madueriera and Ryan Stegman.
The Inhumans have also reportedly been in development as a movie franchise for Marvel going back several years, with Lee going on record stating they were in development. Back in March studio president Kevin Feige stated that the company is "defintiely thinking about" an Inhumans movie and that there's "great potential there".
This time last year, just after Diesel was announced as voicing Groot for Guardians of the Galaxy, the entreprenurial actor said that his 2013 meeting with Marvel was originally for a different role - something today's Facebook post could possibly be revisiting.
“That was the focus of our conversation – a fresh IP that would come out in 2016 or 2017, and potentially launch the third phase,” Diesel told The Hollywood Reporter back in August 2013. “With my schedule, it was almost impossible to imagine I could do anything immediate.”
