Hitman thriller “Hunter’s Prayer,” which stars “Avatar” thesp Sam Worthington, has received an investment from U.K. regional film and TV org Screen Yorkshire.
Screen Yorkshire wouldn’t reveal the amount that it has invested, but said it was its biggest investment to date. From this year it has been able to invest in excess of £1 million ($1.7 million) per project.
The $25 million pic, which was previously known as “For the Dogs” and will be helmed by Jonathan Mostow (“Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines”), will shoot in Northern England and Hungary from this autumn.
The fast-paced action pic focuses on Lucas (Worthington), an assassin hired to kill a young girl. When he can’t bring himself to carry out the task, both are marked for death and hunted across Europe. Their only hope is to find out why her family were wiped out, and bring those responsible to justice.
Pic was penned by Paul Leyden, Oren Moverman, John Brancato and Michael Ferris, based on Kevin Wignall’s novel “For the Dogs.”
Screen Yorkshire is investing in the pic through its Yorkshire Content Fund, alongside the Ingenious Senior Film Fund and LipSync Prods. Other Yorkshire Content Fund investments include “Peaky Blinders,” “Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell,” “Testament of Youth,” “Get Santa,” “Catch Me Daddy” and “’71.”
Producers are Navid McIlhargey (“Rock’n’Rolla”), Anthony Rhulen (“Rum Diary”) for U.S. shingle Film Engine, Chris Milburn (“Getaway,” “An American Haunting”) for U.K.’s Midsummer Films, John and Michael Schwarz, and Worthington for Full Clip in the U.S., and Leyden.
Sierra/Affinity is handling international sales.
