Winter Park's A Comic Shop and Geek Easy is going to expand. Abraham Aboraya Reporter- Orlando Business Journal The Geek Easy, the bar and geek destination inside Winter Park's A Comic Shop, is expanding. Aaron Haaland, owner of A Comic Shop and The Geek Easy, this weekend took to crowdfunding platform IndieGoGo, looking to raise $30,000 for an expansion. In just 24 hours, the campaign has already raised $1,200 toward its goal, and Haaland said the renovation is happening even if the campaign isn’t successful. In the video for the campaign, Haaland said The Geek Easy has become the “nexus of pop culture” in Orlando. “The problem is we’re growing faster than we can compensate for,” Haaland said in the campaign’s video. “So we decided to expand.” The news means potential opportunities for companies, and is an indication of a growing geek and pop culture movement in Central Florida. The campaign's $30,000 would go toward: $9,000 for construction and electrician costs $4,000 to remodel of existing restroom, addition of second restroom $11,000 for food and drink expansion, including additional beer taps. $2,500 for more seating $2,000 for rewards for campaign backers $2,100 in fees The full expansion plans will be revealed Aug. 1. Haaland said in the video that he’s taking a grassroots approach to the expansion. “I don’t want to take on corporate investors and be beholden to their whims,” Haaland said. “Disney doesn’t have to own everything in Orlando.”
