variety.com/2014/tv/news/levar-burton-launches-kickstarter-to-bring-reading-rainbow-to-the-web-1201195052/LeVar Burton has taken to Kickstarter in hopes of resurrecting the popular PBS children’s show “Reading Rainbow,” which he hosted from 1983 to 2006. Burton unveiled the “Reading Rainbow” iPad app in 2012, but is now seeking to expand the program’s reach by making content available to anyone with internet access, rather than only those who own tablets. With an initial Kickstarter goal of $1 million, Burton hopes to bring the show to the web for universal at-home use and also plans to offer an educator-specific version for teachers and provide free access to the service for at least 1500 classrooms. Burton and “Reading Rainbow” will reward donors with prizes including tickets to the “Reading Rainbow Live!” reading tour, private dinners with Burton and the chance to wear the original visor he wore on “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” The “Reading Rainbow” Kickstarter fund went live Wednesday morning and ends July 2.
