variety.com/2014/film/news/cannes-ifc-films-in-negotiations-to-acquire-josh-charles-starrer-bird-people-exclusive-1201192136/PARIS– IFC Films is in advanced negotiations to acquire the rights to “Bird People,” Pascale Ferran’s Un Certain Regard player that stars “The Good Wife’s” Josh Charles as an American business traveler with a 24-hour delay in Paris. Paris-based Films Distribution handles international sales on the film – one of the arthouse standouts of the official selection — and is currently negotiating the sale to the U.S.. The story, set almost exclusively inside the Hilton hotel near Charles de Gaulle Airport, is what Variety critic Peter Debruge called “an unlikely Cinderella story around its magical midway point.” Ferran, who won Cannes’ Camera d’Or for her 1994 debut, “Petits arrangements avec les morts,” penned the screenplay of “Bird People” with Guillaume Breaud. Pic is produced by Denis Freyd at Archipel 35, the well-established co-production company of Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne’s “Two Days, One Night,” which played in competition. The international cast of “Bird People” is completed by Anais Demoustier, Roschdy Zem, Camelia Jordana, Geoffrey Cantor, Clark Johnson, Taklyt Vongdara, Radha Mitchell and Mathieu Amalric. Diaphana will release the film in France on June 4. Earlier in the festival, IFC secured the U.S. rights to “Salvation,” Kristian Levring’s Western starring Mads Mikkelsen, Eva Green and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
