variety.com/2014/film/news/cannes-easternlight-fires-up-animated-legend-of-a-rabbit-sequel-1201185437/Easternlight has taken over the international sales duties of big-budget Chinese animated feature “Legend of a Rabbit: Martial of Fire 3D.” The film is a sequel to “Legend of a Rabbit,” the 2011 film that is the only Chinese CGI-animated feature to have been widely sold internationally. That first movie was produced and sold by production company Tianjin North Film Group, which licensed it to over 30 territories. Directed by Sun Lijun, the film had an English-language voice cast that included Jon Heder, Michael Clarke Duncan, Tom Arnold and Rebecca Black. The sequel is being presented at Cannes by China’s State Administration of Radio, Film and Television as the first movie to be featured in a special focus on Chinese animated films at the Cannes market. The film was brought to the company by Elliot Tong, who last year transferred to Easternlight and its parent company Arclight, setting up their Beijing offices. Tong previously worked at Tianjin North. “Martial of Fire 3D” sees Tu, the rabbit hero of the first film, fall from grace and redeem himself through a quest to take on the evil force that has been terrorizing the people. The pic is a Chinese production produced by Tianjin North, CB Film, Liuyijiu Film and ICBC Bank.
