The project marks the directorial debut of Dan Gilroy, who wrote “Real Steel” and “The Bourne Legacy.” Gilroy’s script tells the story of a driven man, played by Gyllenhaal, who discovers the nocturnal world of freelance crime journalism in Los Angeles. Gyllenhaal also produced along with Jennifer Fox, Tony Gilroy, Bold Films’ Chairman Michel Litvak and David Lancaster. Bold Films financed and its CEO Gary Michael Walters exec produced with Betsy Danbury. Sierra/Affinity is handling international sales at Cannes. “Nightcrawler” was shot in Los Angeles, starting in October. It’s been allocated a $2.3 million production tax credit from the state of California. Open Road’s deal was negotiated by Tom Ortenberg, Elliott Kleinberg and Peter Lawson with WME, CAA and Miles Mogulescu on behalf of Bold Films.
