variety.com/2014/biz/news/scarjo-lawsuit-book-1201180893/Scarlett Johannsson is suing the author and publisher of the French novel “La Première Chose qu’On Regarde” (“The First Thing We Look At”) for €50,000 (about $69,000) in damages. Author Grégoire Delacourt’s besteller features a character that closely resembles the 28-year-old actress and Johansson’s lawyer Vincent Toledano says the work also includes “defamatory claims about her private life.” In addition to the damages she has demanded from Delacourt and publisher JC Lattés, Johansson is also seeking an injunction to halt translation of the work and prevent it from being adapted for the big screen. The author and publisher’s lawyer, Anne Veil, called the allegations “scandalous” and said Johansson “has not been used as a product.” The novel, published in March 2013, also features a male garage mechanic character who resembles Ryan Gosling and thinks Johannson shows up at his door, further fueling the notion that the work is in fact about the actress. Johannson previously sought compensation for the work’s unauthorized use of her name in June of last year.
