USOS VS. RYBACK & CURTIS AXEL VS. JACK SWAGGER & CESARO VS. LOS MATADORES FOR THE WWE TAG TITLES
This was just announced as being an elimination match, so it's going three falls instead of first pinfall.
Excellent opener, so much action it was hard to keep up with. The Usos retained when both Usos splashed onto Cesaro for the pin. Los Matadores were first out. They did dives and then Torito did a crossbody on Axel with everyone falling out of the ring with all the other wrestlers. Swagger won the first fall making Fernando (I think) submit to the Patriot lock. Second fall saw Cesaro pin Ryback with the Neutralizer, leaving the Real Americans vs. Usos. The crowd cheered both teams.
Swagger was yelling at Cesaro for losing. Fans immediately got behind Cesaro. Zeb tried to clam them down. Swagger put the Patriot lock on Cesaro and fans booed. Colter told him not to do it. Colter ordered Swagger to shake his hand. Fans wanted Cesaro to turn so bad. They shook hands but Cesaro gave Swagger ten reps with the giant swing. Colter was almost crying and Cesaro walked out on them.
Hulk Hogan is out to start the show. The first segment, which went nearly 20 minutes, was Hogan, Steve Austin and The Rock come out to trade catch phrases. Hogan twice said he was glad to be in the Silverdome instead of Superdome. The crowd booed slightly but chanted Superdome and let him pass. Austin came out and paid tribute to Hogan for paving the way, joked about being in the Silverdome. He asked the fans if they wanted him to kick Hogan's ass and they said "Hell yeah," but of course nothing of the sort happened. He said he appreciated everything Hogan did for the business.
Rock came out and made a joke about the Silverdome and Austin laughed. Fans ate this up. Rock said if it wasn't for Hogan, there wouldn't be hustle, loyalty and respect. And yes, they booed Rock for that. Rock then said if Austin hadn't stood up against the authority than there wouldn't be the guy doing that tonight. Crowd chanted "Yes" like crazy. Rock siad so many wrestling fans were born nine months after Mania (shouldn't it be closer to ten months?) because their parents watched Mania and got it on after the match and talked about how there would be a bunch of Rock babies in January. The crowd chanted "This is awesome" at seeing all three in. They pushed it like these were the three biggest stars in company history. The segment ended with everyone doing their catch phrase, if you smell, that's the bottom line and watcha gonna do.
HHH VS. DANIEL BRYAN
A second excellent match. A long technical match, first half of HHH working the shoulder and using a chicken wing crossface and another crossface. Bryan reversed into his own crossface. Bryan did two straight topes. late as well as a sunset flip power bomb. Bryan kicked out of pedigree. He went for another and Bryan kicked him in the head and pinned him with the Busaiku knee. They went 26:00, not a match of the year or probably even the week, anything, but it got a few "This is awesome" chants and was the caliber of a good PPV main event.
After the match, Stephanie was slapping the hell out of him. HHH nailed him from behind put his left arm near the post and HHH slammed a chair to the arm. The idea is Bryan is injured but refuses to admit it. Storyline is very basic but it's also exactly what they should have done.
NEW AGE OUTLAWS & KANE VS. THE SHIELD
This was a rush job, rushed through the ring entraces, and The Shield did all their spots including Ambrose and Rollins doing a double tope. Reigns speared Kane and then speared both Outlaws and they did their Triple Power bomb on both Outlaws and Rollins pinned Gunn in less than three minutes.
I expect to see The Shield back again later in the show. Don't know it, but it would seem there's a reason to rush through that.
Danny Davis, Sgt. Salugther ad Jim Duggan doing Slam City stuff. Ricky Steamboat challenge Duggan to play. Ted DiBiase showed up with cash and bought Slam City from them. He said in WWE or Slam City, everyone's got a price for the Million Dollar Man. Ron Simmons said "you know what."
ANDRE THE GIANT BATTLE ROYAL
No Rusevi. Cesaro won when he was left with Big Show and he bodyslammed Show over the top rope. Show shook hands with him. Sheamus and Del Rio both went the top together when Sheamus picked him up from an armbar and tried to throw him over and both went over. No big surprises in it past Cesaro as far as a star not advertised being in. No RVD or anything like that. Really a typical Batte Royal with some cool eliminations on Ziggler and a spot where Kingston was thrown over the top almost backwards and he fell on the steps but his back was on floor but his feet never did, so he couild come back in. No Christian either by the way, nor Wade Barrett.
JOHN CENA VS. BRAY WYATTl
We had a a genuine upset as Cena pinned Wyatt with the Attitude Adjustment. It was a long match and it was good, but not great. The story was that Wyatt kept begging Cena to destroy him. He wanted him to hit him when he was down at the start and Cena refused. He later picked up the steps but then put them down and refused to hit Wyatt with them. At the finish, Wyatt handed Cena a chair but Cena teased hitting him, but hit Rowan. Wyatt went for Sister Abigail but Cena reversed into the Attitude Adjustment for the pin. One spot saw Cena freak out when Wyatt did his Exorcist crawl and stopped in his tracks. Cena also drove Luke Harper threw the barricade.
HALL OF FAME TIME
No entrances. Everone was out at the start except Warrior. Daniel Moody (Paul Bearer's son) was with his brother holding an urn. Lita got a big reaction. Razor Ramon did as well. Warrior got a special entrance. At least on TV, it felt like Lita got as big or bigger a reaction as anyone although Warrior may have since he had the special entrance and it was designed for it.
UNDERTAKER VS. BROCK LESNAR
Lesnar won with his third F-5. The crowd absolutely freaked out. Long match and the people just weren't into it. It was slow, went too long and nobody bought that Lesnar could win. The first time Lesnar hit the F-5 people didn't even react to the kick out. Undertaker kicked out of the second F-5. Lesnar broke the gogoplata twice and kicked out of a tombstone piledriver. There was no dispute about the finish. Undertaker went for a tombstone, Lensar powered out and put him on his shoulder and hit the F-5. There was an "Undertaker" chant when it was over. Undertaker was milking the crowd reaction which did come. It wasn't what I would imagine. This probably will lead to a lot of talk over the next 24 hours.
14 WOMAN DIVAS TITLE MATCH
A.J. Lee retained using the black widow on Naomi. It was pretty bad except Natalya did some cool stuff and the Bella Twins did a double tope onto everyone. They didn't do anything with Vickie out of the ordinary.
Hulk Hogan was with Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff. Piper said it doesn't bother him about losing at the first Mania beause he didn't lose the fall, but said it bothers Orndorff. Orndorff said for 30 years every day they bring up I lost at the first WrestleMania. If I wouild have had a better partner maybe we wouldn't have lost. Of course Mr. T showed up. Pat Patterson showd up with a ref outfit. Hogan wanted to shake hands and bury the hatchet. Hogan and Orndorff shook hand Hogan and Piper did and finally Piper and T shook hands and hugged. Piper acted like he didn't want to do it.
They introduced Bruno, Dusty, Backlund, Bret Hart (big reaction) and Harley Race.
RANDY ORTON VS. DANIEL BRYAN VS. BATISTA FOR WWE TITLE
Rev Theory played Orton's theme.
Great match with a a lot of twists and turns. Bryan made Batista tap out to the Yes lock to win title. They did the confetti celebration after the show. Long really great match. HHH and Stephanie came out to screw Bryan with ref Scott Armstrong but Bryan kicked out of a pin and hit a tope on all of them. HHH pulled out the sledge hammer but Bryan beat him to the punch and hit him with it. HHH and Stephanie were both taken out. Later a combination Batista bomb and RKO put Bryan through a table. Orton's back was cut up and Bryan sold like he was dead. They put Bryan on a stretcher and he was being taken out, but he got off the strecher and made a comeback. Bryan used the Yes lock on both but there were saves. Batista went to spear Orton but he leap frogged and nailed Bryan and Orton hit Batista with the RKO but Batista kicked out. Batista used the Batista bomb on Orton but Bryan used the Busaiku knee to Batista and put him in the Yes lock for the win. It was again exactly what they should have done. The crowd reacted the way you would expect.
