Gravitas Ventures Nabs U.S. Rights to Geena Davis Comedy 'Don't Talk to Irene'
The indie is set for a March 2 theatrical release.
Gravitas Ventures has acquired the U.S. rights to the indie comedy Don't Talk to Irene, which features Thelma and Louise star Geena Davis.
Gravitas Ventures plans to release the indie that had a world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in theaters and on VOD and Digital HD on March 2, 2018. Pat Mills' sophomore feature comedy from Edyson Entertainment also stars newcomer Michelle McLeod, Scott Thompson, the late Bruce Gray and Anastasia Phillips.
Don't Talk to Irene follows Irene (McLeod), a fat and friendless high school student who does community service at the Golden Days retirement home after being suspended from school. With a passion for cheerleading, Irene secretly signs up the senior residents to audition for a dance-themed reality show to prove that you don't need to be physically perfect to be awesome.
"Don't Talk to Irene is a make-you-feel-good film about the unexpected and living life to the fullest no matter the age,” said Gravitas Ventures’ Josh Spector in a statement. "We fell in love with Irene and her story, and we’re certain audiences will do so as well," he added.
The film, which was shot in Hamilton, Ontario, marks Davis' return to the big screen after her Golden Globe-winning role as the president on ABC's Commander in Chief and a multiple-episode arc on Grey's Anatomy.
Josh Spector from Gravitas Ventures negotiated the deal with Andrew Herwitz from Film Sales Company on behalf of the filmmakers.
