Jennifer Lawrence will star in a 19th century true-crime drama from Call Me by Your Name director Luca Guadagnino. Burial Rites, based on the Hannah Kent novel of the same name, follows Agnes Magnusdottir (Lawrence), the last woman to be publicly executed in Iceland in 1830. Magnusdottir was sentenced to death for killing two men and setting fire to their home, with the story taking place as she awaits confirmation of her death sentence by the high court. The feature is set up at Sony's TriStar Pictures, with studio president Hannah Minghella and Shary Shirazi overseeing. The project was previously set up at Lionsgate with Gary Ross, who directed Lawrence in the first Hunger Games movie, attached to helm. Ross will now executive produce the TriStar version of the project, along with Jerry Kalajian. Lawrence, Justine Ciarrocchi and Allison Shearmur will produce. Lawrence will next be seen in Fox and Chernin Entertainment's spy thriller Red Sparrow and is set to return to the X-Men universe as Mystique in the upcoming Dark Phoenix. She is repped by CAA and Hansen Jacobson. Guadagnino, whose credits also include the Tilda Swinton-fronted A Bigger Splash, is repped by WME and Bloom Hergott.
