GFW CREATIVE UPDATE, CORRECTION FROM A FEW DAYS AGO AND MORE NEWS
By Mike Johnson on 2017-09-07 18:47:00
The Impact creative team going forward will be headed by John Gaburick, Sonjay Dutt and Scott D'Amore. It is not a case of Gaburick being in charge of creative again. The trio will be leading the creative together with Dutch Mantel, Jeremy Borash and Abyss also having input and assisting with different creative duties.
In regard to the Justin Barrasso report on Sports Illustrated's website that Anthem is seeking to sell off GFW, we are told that in meetings this week, all discussion was about plans going forward and there was no inkling of plans to shut down or sell off the video library. We've heard nothing from the WWE end that such discussions are underway and they would be the most likely buyer. Although any discussions would be attempted to be kept under wraps as long as possible, my personal belief is that with WWE in cost-cutting mode and having slowed down other aspects, such as original WWE Network programming, they likely aren't looking to rush into a major acquisition,
There was also a report circulating in the last day that Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported Anthem was shutting down the office in Nashville and moving everything to Toronto. We are told that during meetings earlier this week, Ed Nordholm was specifically asked about this by a staffer and said there were no plans to do such a move. Long-term, I think it makes the most sense as Anthem has a studio and an infrastructure in Toronto, so it makes more sense to have everything in-house as opposed to renting out studio space in Nashville.
In regard to Karen Jarrett, I inferred several days ago that she was done here. That was an error on my behalf and I apologize for that. I have been told that no decision has been made on where things stand with her.
Jeff Jarrett's Twitter bio now notes, "Several new projects on the way…Bookings, email JJ4Jarrett@gmail.com"
Tonight's episode of Impact Wrestling was put to bed before this week's changes.
