IndiePix Films Launches Subscription-Streaming Service with 400-Plus International Movies
Another niche-oriented video subscription service is bellying up to the digital entertainment bar: IndiePix Films, a small New York distributor of independent international movies, has launched an unlimited-streaming service stocked with more than 400 movies from across the globe.
IndiePix Unlimited, priced at $5.99 per month, is available on the web and via apps for Apple’s iOS and Google Android. Other streaming services catering to indie-film buffs include Fandor and Tribeca Shortlist, a joint venture of Lionsgate and Tribeca Enterprises.
IndiePix has exclusive distribution rights to 75% of the films available on the subscription VOD service, said Jordan Mattos, the company’s VP of programming and acquisitions. The new service offers cinephiles a single monthly price for all the movies they want to watch, expanding on the company’s existing download-to-own and streaming and DVD rentals businesses.
“We’re differentiating through the selection of films – the films are all underdog stories,” Mattos said. “The underlying theme is the plight of the outsider.”
The IndiePix Unlimited lineup includes post-apocalyptic sci-fi fable “Crumbs” from Ethiopia (pictured above), which won the special jury prize at the 2015 Los Angeles Film Festival, and Ryan Gosling-produced “White Shadow,” about the African albino muti trade. Other titles include Ondi Timoner’s Sundance Grand Jury-winning documentary “We Live In Public”; “Samson & Delilah,” the 2009 Cannes Camera d’Or winner; Iranian artist Shirin Neshat’s feature-length debut, “Women Without Men”; and Paola Mendoza’s family drama “Entre Nos.”
IndiePix said it will continue to add new movies to the subscription service. Upcoming films that will have an exclusive release window on IndiePix Unlimited include “Lounton,” a Locarno Film Festival Opera Prima Award-winner; “The Winter,” a magical realist fantasy from Greece; and “On the Road,” a sensationalist summertime adventure from the Dominican Republic.
New York-based IndiePix, founded in 2004, has a catalog of nearly 2,000 films spanning multiple genres acquired on the international festival circuit. The company distributes the movies directly to consumers as well as via national retail channels and select theatrical exhibition. IndiePix also owns Festival Genius, a platform for connecting film festivals to audiences.
IndiePix Unlimited uses Streamhoster to deliver the desktop version for the service, and Ireland-based DMD Max for its mobile content.
