According to Japanese media sources, Oz started formal bankruptcy proceedings in Tokyo District Court on Sept. 9. Founded by Ichise in 1989, the company recorded sales of $16 million for the fiscal year ending in June 2007, but in recent years, with the fading of the J-Horror boom, has found hits hard to come by. In 2004 Ichise and his partners scored a number one hit at the US box office with “The Grudge,” a remake of the 2002 Takashi Shimizu horror “Juon: The Grudge,” which Ichise also produced. He was also a producer on the less-successful follow-ups “The Grudge 2” (2006) and “The Grudge 3” (2009).
