So the NWA as we know it is dead.
The NWA has just recently been sold to Billy Corgan. And as of now, word from different sources says that as of October 1st NWA renewals will not be happening for licensure. That means every promoter that spent money to become a member of the NWA is s*** out of luck.
Billy corgan's hope is that they can rival Impact Wrestling or Global Force wrestling and some of those smaller shows. I don't believe that they can do it. These guys have well intentions. But they have no idea what they're getting into with professional wrestling.
Lots of these promoters think that you get a couple of TV deals and everything's going to be okay. But that's just not how it works.
The NWA as we know it is dead and my heart is sad because of it. I know what Bruce Tharpe tried to do. He tried to get a product Reborn at a time that it was impossible to have it done.
And it's now that I realized that the NWA as we know it is dead. Multiple sources within the NWA Community have said so. And there's a lot of ill-will and hard feelings going on right now.
This is one of those times I hope I'm wrong. Many other people seem to think that the NWA will be stronger than ever. But the days of a hard-working, world-traveling Champion are over. The days of many people working together to push one brand, one company, are over.
But some of the people seem to think that NWA is going to be fine.
From Facebook, James Beard, renowned NWA referee, had this to say, "Trust me, the NWA is not going anywhere. The new ownership is highly respectful and protective of the NWA titles and legacy. That's about all I can say. Everyone concerned or curious should understand that the NWA will be in good hands."
So take it or leave it. Form your own opinion, and face the fact that the world of wrestling is now changing. The NWA world is now changing.
Billy Corgan and his group must bring the NWA World title to higher levels, and do everything that they can to protect the Legacy and the lineage of the NWA World Championship.
I hope that James Beard is right.
I hope that the NWA is in great hands.

Dead is not the same as relevant.

I found it foolish to dump longstanding NWA affiliates - you have to have an existing structure of promotions instead of just buy the name and start completely from scratch. I do not agree with the path Corgan is taking.

Wait... You proclaim the NWA is dead, because their vision didn't coincide with what Bruce Tharpe was doing? Surely, you jest. What Bruce Tharpe did to the previous NWA ownership if anything nearly killed the NWA. Not unlike a cockroach the end of NWA has survived. They survive when WCW left they survived when Shane Douglas threw down the title, they survived when they split from TNA, and they even survived the shenanigans of Bruce Tharpe. Maybe, they won't be at the same level as impact, but I trust the NWA will be alive and well in 5 years from this post.

1977 called and there was no one to pick up the phone. How long ago has the NWA been a blip on the radar screen for wrestling fans? Smaller regional upstarts have been more noticeable than an NWA affiliate for the past 20 years or so. Any life that they could bring into this organization would be a plus. Take it out of the mothballs in the attic and give it some exposure.... then the brand will have some meaning again. Corgan got TNA turned in the right direction...imagine what he could do without a albatross like Dixie Carter hanging around his neck. People are bored with the WWE brand, the right upstart could make things interesting. However, the money the WWE juggernaut can through around makes it an uphill battle.

That would be "throw" not through.

The problem with these regional promos under NWA banner now, is they don't follow a similar policy for everyone. How a promotion operates, what they have to do to promote a show, what talent works the show, qualifications etc. Too many loose cannons out there and as a result, big inconsistencies. Hopefully the roll out will be a bit more controlled and not just do you have 700 to 1000 dollars to call yourself NWA each year?

The NWA was wrestling's version of the mafia. They wouldn't let just any promotion be a member and they certainly wouldn't let anyone run against them. Those days are long gone, and so is the NWA.

The NWA has been dead for over 25 years. The NWA Title means absolutely nothing, the brand is virtually irrelevant except for a few people holding onto the glory days which were 35 years ago. From Bobby Heenan bringing the belt onto WWF TV, to WCW using it as a Mid Card title, to Shane Douglas throwing the belt down, to TNA killing what little prestige it had left to Bruce Tharpe using it as a vanity project the NWA has been whored and beaten into what it is now, a minor indy with no credibility or relevance. Hell, the WWE owns most of the NWA history and the original DG Belt. I'll remember the NWA that was the major league and even fought the WWF head to head through the Mid 80's, not the zombie walking around the last 25 years.
