'Hunger Games,' 'Twilight' Theme Park in the Works
Lionsgate has also licensed its 'Now You See Me' and 'Robin Hood' film properties to a Korean developer to be part of the studio's first outdoor branded attraction.
Lionsgate films including The Hunger Games, The Twilight Saga and Now You See Me franchises are set to become outdoor attractions at a planned theme park in South Korea.
The Hollywood studio on Tuesday said it has licensed the movie properties to Landing Jeju Development Co. so the theme park operator can develop and open Lionsgate Movie World at Jeju Shinhwa World in 2019. The planned outdoor attraction will span across around 1.3 million square feet and will include movie-themed rides and streetscapes, restaurants, souvenir shops and entertainment performances.
The outdoor theme park, divided into seven movie zones, will also include among its film properties the upcoming Robin Hood: Origins pic. Lionsgate Movie World anchoring Jeju Shinhwa World extends the studio's foray into theme parks after earlier attractions in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
Theme park attractions and other location-based entertainment opportunities allow the studio to generate new revenues from its movie franchises in the entertainment and tourist sectors. Alongside the Lionsgate-themed attractions, Jeju Shinhwha World will include a host of hotels, a waterpark, a destination spa, a casino and a K-pop entertainment center.
"We’re pleased to partner with our friends at Landing International, one of Asia’s premier developers, on our first branded outdoor theme park and one of our largest and most exciting location-based entertainment destinations,” Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said in a statement.
