www.wrestlezone.com/news/867787-ricochet-comments-on-mlw-one-shot-his-wrestling-style-working-in-front-of-the-orlando-crowdRicochet Comments On MLW One Shot, His Wrestling Style, Working In Front Of The Orlando Crowd Ricochet recently spoke with Jay Reddick of the Orlando Sentinel while promoting MLW’s One-Shot live event this October; you can read a few excerpts below: Ricochet comments on his style of wrestling, switching things up: “One of my strong suits is finding and creating transitions between moves, then stringing combinations into series,” said Ricochet. “When it comes to the moves themselves, after I created a style a lot of guys started doing the same moves I was. I had to switch up my whole offense, then when it happened again I had to switch it up again. It was a hard thing to do, but it helps me grow and helps me not become stale.” Ricochet comments on working in front of the hometown Orlando crowd: “Working at home is always best. Traveling is the hardest part of my job – I say I don’t get paid to wrestle, because that’s the fun part. I get paid to travel. When you’re hurting after a match, the last thing you want to do is get in a car or on a plane to get to the next city.” Ricochet comments on his level of success, staying grounded: “I was just a 100-pounds-soaking-wet skinny kid when I started. No way I ever thought I’d make it this far. [In July] I was on a show wrestling Rey Mysterio, one of my heroes; John Hennigan [aka John Morrison] was on the show; and the bassist from my favorite band growing up [Killswitch Engage] was in the crowd. I just thought, ‘What is happening? This is crazy!’ I pinch myself often to make sure I’m not dreaming.”

www.si.com/extra-mustard/2017/07/10/wale-major-league-wrestling-one-shotWale announces plans to team up with Major League Wrestling for 'MLW One-Shot' Six days after his appearance on WWE’s SmackDown, Grammy-nominated artist Wale is now announcing his next big venture: a live wrestling show with Court Bauer’s Major League Wrestling promotion. “We’re calling the event MLW One-Shot,” said Wale, who will be teaming up with Bauer, who is Major League Wrestling’s CEO, to serve as co-executive producer for the one-night only affair. “I’m actually taking a lesson I learned from Paul Heyman. Paul always tells me, ‘You need to create something that is culturally relevant.’ That is what we’re creating with One-Shot.” Wale noted that Heyman’s advice usually transfers from wrestling to hip-hop, but in this particular instance, Wale will be directly applying these lessons to the business of pro wrestling. “The last six days been wild,” said Wale. “Kicking it off with SmackDown and now finally announcing this project. We are doing One-Shot for the die-hard fans and the culture. So much young talent hasn’t had that spotlight. It’s important we give them theirs at One-Shot.” In an exclusive to Sports Illustrated, Bauer confirmed that MLW will return to live action with a show on Oct. 5 at Gilt Nightclub in Orlando, Florida. “This is a self-contained wrestling event,” said Bauer. “MLW One-Shot is a celebration of a generation of wrestlers who are actively redefining and reviving the sport. We’re thrilled to hold One-Shot in Orlando, which is a homecoming for us, as we have hosted many wrestling events there, including WaleMania III this past WrestleMania weekend. “I’ve had the opportunity over the past three years through WaleMania to meet some really great talent, so for us to get together in the ring and collectively collaborate with some of the top talent in the world is going to be incredible. Entering into pro wrestling with MLW One-Shot seems like a natural progression and extension of what we are already doing with MLW Radio. The world of MLW never stops, and MLW One-Shot is a way for the world of MLW to expand while showcasing great athletes and their talents.” Wrestling fans may be familiar with Bauer through his MLW Radio creation, which includes podcasts from a litany of wrestling personalities in Jim Cornette, Bruce Prichard and Conrad Thompson, Eric Bischoff, and Tony Schiavone, as well as a new mini-documentary series on Kevin Sullivan. Bauer also ran live shows under the MLW name beginning in 2002, but he noted that One-Shot is an entirely different project. “MLW One-Shot is special one-time wrestling show, and it is a celebration of this generation,” said Bauer. “It’s been very inspiring to me to see so many wrestlers bring such life into pro wrestling over the past fifteen years. I’m very proud of what this new generation has done for the business, and to work with this new generation is going to be an honor.” Bauer also spent time on the creative team in WWE from 2005-07, and is fully aware of the pitfalls that trap celebrities who make cameos on WWE programming. Wale hosted a rap battle segment this past week on SmackDown between The New Day and The Uso’s. He pulled off the rare WWE appearance where a star from another genre highlights the WWE talent without overshadowing it, while still receiving a positive response from the crowd. “Putting the talent over, both heel and face, was my priority, even if it came at my expense,” explained Wale. “At the end of the day, that’s part of the business. You’ve got to find a way to portray the characters in the manner that the storyline needs them to be portrayed. The Uso’s are heels, but they’re not corny heels. I had to do a staredown with Jimmy, but I refused to treat them like they were chickensh-- heels. That’s not who they are. The New Day has great energy with the fans, and I loved that, but it was also important for me to remain impartial and, above all, push the storyline forward.” Wale moderated SmackDown’s rap battle between The New Day and The Uso’s, which included an X-rated reference regarding a sex tape with Xavier Woods. “Those are five guys who really understand the concept of battle rap,” said Wale. “They handled themselves accordingly. It was shoot-style, and that’s what battle rap is – you leave it in the ring, and that’s what they did.” The opportunity to appear on SmackDown served as a reminder to Wale of how much he loves the business of pro wrestling. Now, Wale noted, he has the chance to change it. “Sometimes, when I’m watching WWE or Ring of Honor or New Japan, I wish certain guys could be highlighted or developed,” said Wale. “Now I have the opportunity to be involved in something I care about, and that is the inspiration behind One-Shot. Wrestling is Wale’s release from the world of business. www.facebook.com/comiccollectorsguide247/photos/a.560910034069304.1073741826.560909994069308/868517976641840/?type=3&theater

www.wrestlinginc.com/wi/news/2017/0906/631902/court-bauer-on-mlw-one-shot-event/Court Bauer On MLW's ONE SHOT Event, Building His Roster, Booking The Show, How The Idea Came About Today The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling welcomes the man behind MLW RADIO & MLW: Major League Wrestling as Court Bauer joins us for EPISODE #299. Discussing the HUGE MLW: One-Shot return of the Major League Wrestling promotion on October 5th, Court gives John and Chad the low down on the insanely good card thus far for the super-show, the impact of Tony Schiavone's return to wrestling broadcasting and all the happenings surrounding one of the most anticipated live wrestling shows of 2017. We also get a glimpse of what is going on in the world of MLW Radio and the growing MLW roster of mega-stars who continue to bring amazing audio content to fans worldwide. The full episode can be downloaded at this link. MLW's return to wrestling events as One Shot takes place on October 5th: "It's right around the corner but it's been a really fun experience as a project that we thought we could all get together one time and collaborate and do something fun and different and it is something that the fans can enjoy, that is number one in our goals here. This was something that just came about while we were all sitting around at 2:30 in the morning at a nightclub in Orlando for WaleMania and I'm sitting there with Wale and a few other people (Mister Saint Laurent, Alex Greenfield) and we are all sitting there thinking it has been a lot of fun doing WaleMania which is like a podcast and an after party and Wale performs and it goes until like 3:30 in the morning. Every WrestleMania week it is kind of like the kickoff of WrestleMania weekend and long story short we said this is fun but it would be cool to like maybe finally do that thing we have talked about doing and do a ONE SHOT MLW wrestling event and that is kind of the term we used in calling it a one off / One Shot." Collaborating with Wale on this project: "For at least two or three years Wale and I have been talking about doing something like this but he's put out albums with Jerry Seinfeld and been really busy doing a lot of cool projects and just did something with Judd Apatow that is going to drop in ( I think) January. So between that and having kids and stuff we couldn't get our schedules synced up and low and behold we both had a gap this fall to make it happen when we said if we are going to do it than we've got to do it now or who knows when we are going to do it. We were just really fortunate enough to surround ourselves with great talent like Ricochet, Shane Strickland, MVP, Sami Callihan and Jeff Cobb (former Olympian) and UFC fighter Tom Lawlor and a lot of other guys we have yet to announce so it makes my job easy because they are just rock stars." Putting together the roster and crew for One Shot: "There are definitely guys that I wanted to either work with again or with and collaborate with. Case and point, Sami Callihan. He is just so creative and he is everywhere now and is one of the hardest working men as a free agent in wrestling. I had an opportunity to work with Shane Strickland briefly when I was consulting with Lucha Underground and AAA but I was really not hands on and it was more from a far and the same goes for Ricochet too, that is where I first met him. They are just super-talented guys and they are guys who were on my list and guys I wanted to work with. "I am really privileged to have guys like MSL and Alex and plus being able to bring Tony Schiavone and Rich Bocchini into the mix as our announce team was fantastic. With Tony it is the first time in sixteen years that he will be calling the action and he will be live in Orlando, he is not going to be live in a studio or somewhere else he will be live there and it is such a great honor to have Tony who has turned down so many requests to come back over the years finally comes back. He is part of the MLW Radio Network so he kind of had too (laughing) and Rich too because Rich is a great get and did so much great work with NXT and to me is the definitive voice of NXT still even having left there over a year ago." Returning to the booker chair and working on creative: "I've been a part of creative teams and I just never felt very satisfied with my own experience there but I also didn't feel like I really accomplished what Vince McMahon wanted us to because I didn't think that kind of dynamic worked. Approaching this project as an experiment was that I am going to go old school like I was taught by my mentor Gary Hart and learning under Terry Funk during MLW and that is to have a booker and an assistant booker and that is all you really need. From my personal experience that really is all you need because I've seen the committee thing and it really just never works so I think we have a more distinct path in where we are going with everything and I feel unlike where you see things take random turns, you will have a definitive beginning, middle and end to what we are going to do with these stories."
