Drake Doremus Sets Amazon TV Series 'White Fur'
Author Jardine Libaire will pen the script for the romantic drama, which the 'Equals' helmer will direct.
Drake Doremus is the latest auteur filmmaker headed to television.
The Equals director is teaming with Amazon for romantic drama series White Fur. The hourlong show is based on a book of the same name by up-and-coming author Jardine Libaire, who will pen the script. Doremus will direct the series.
White Fur is described as a tender, transgressive and epic love story that follows a young couple who battles the class divide and social conformity in 1980’s New York. The project hails from FilmNation Entertainment, the independent film company behind Arrival and recent breakout The Big Sick.
FilmNation’s Ben Browning, Brenda Vogel and Glen Basner will executive produce alongside Doremus. Libaire will serve as a co-executive producer. “Amazon is building an astonishing line up of television that aligns perfectly with our taste. Jardine’s fresh voice coupled with Drake’s distinct style are the makings of a sexy, smart and compelling show,” said Browning.
“Working with FilmNation and with Drake Doremus has been such a powerfully creative experience, and finding a home at Amazon is a dream. Everyone involved is interested in incubating an intelligently subversive love story, and I'm just thrilled to develop White Fur with this team," added Libaire.
Doremus previously directed Like Crazy, winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, and Equals, starring Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult. His latest feature Newness, starring Nicholas Hoult and Laia Costa, recently sold to Netflix after making its debut at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.
Doremus joins Amazon's roster of top filmmakers turning to TV. Projects already in the works include David O. Russell's mafia drama starring Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore, Nicolas Winding Refn's crime drama Too Old to Die Young fronted by Miles Teller and Barry Jenkins' The Underground Railroad limited series.
