Joe Johnston, who directed 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger as well as cult comic book movie The Rocketeer, is in negotiations to direct Extinction, a sci-fi feature project set up at Good Universe. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville are producing Extinction, which was written by Spenser Cohen. Plot details are being kept under wraps but it does involve a man trying to save his family with an alien invasion figuring into the proceedings. Good Universe picked up the project in late summer 2013. Mandeville exec Alex Young will exec produce. Johnston last directed Not Safe For Work, a Blumhouse low-budget thriller that stars Max Minghella and is awaiting a release. The director is best known for his work on large-scale movies such as The Wolfman, Jurassic Park III, and Jumanji. He is repped by Resolution and Gang Tyre.
