Tyler Perry's 'She's Living My Life' To Open Easter Weekend 2018,‘Madea Family Funeral’ Eyes Next Summer
After a two-year rest between his 2014 title The Single Moms Club and last October’s Boo! A Madea Halloween, Tyler Perry is ramping up his releases with Lionsgate with She’s Living My Life opening on Easter weekend March 30 next year, and A Madea Family Funeral on Aug. 3, 2018. This brings Perry’s total number of upcoming releases to three with the distributor, including Boo 2! A Madea Halloween on Oct. 20.
She’s Living My Life reunites Perry with Oscar and three-time Emmy nominee star Taraji P. Henson, who previously starred in the filmmaker’s The Family That Preys and I Can Do Bad All By Myself. In She’s Living My Life, Henson plays a faithful wife who is tired of standing by her devious husband, and is enraged when it becomes clear she has been betrayed.
The Perry pic will serve as solid counter-programming to Warner Bros.’ Steven Spielberg tentpole Ready Player One which is also debuting over the Easter frame. Perry’s previous movie for Lionsgate, Boo! A Madea Halloween, was a cash cow success at $73.2M off a $20M production cost before P&A.
A Madea Family Funeral stars Perry, Cassi Davis and Patrice Lovely. In the movie, a joyous family reunion becomes a hilarious nightmare as Madea and the crew travel to backwoods Georgia, where they find themselves unexpectedly planning a funeral that might unveil unsavory family secrets. A Madea Family Reunion will square off against Sony’s Holmes & Watson, 20th Century Fox’s The Predator and Disney’s untitled live-action fairy tale on the first weekend of August. Perry is writing and producing both films.
