The e-commerce giant also landed the streaming rights to Soderbergh's heist movie 'Logan Lucky' for Prime Video, following its theatrical release.
Amazon is getting into business with Steven Soderbergh's Fingerprint Releasing.
The e-commerce giant has nabbed the streaming rights to Soderbergh's Logan Lucky to kick-start a two-year first look deal with the new domestic film distributor formed by the Ocean's Eleven director and piloted by Dan Fellman, former long-time president of domestic distribution for Warner Bros.
As part of their deal, Amazon will offer strategic P&A financing to bolster the marketing of Fingerprint’s theatrical releases. Prime Video customers will also be able to stream Logan Lucky during the film's home entertainment window. The movie is set to hit theaters on August 18, 2017 and is expected to hit Amazon's Prime Video in the first quarter of 2018.
The upcoming comedy stars Channing Tatum and Adam Driver as two brothers who attempt to pull off a heist during a NASCAR race. Soderbergh, best known for box office performers that include Erin Brockovich and Magic Mike, praised Amazon as a "fearless, flexible co-conspirator" as he gets Fingerprint Releasing off the ground.
The first look deal was also unveiled by Jason Ropell, Amazon’s vp of worldwide movies. "The combination of a pioneering director, a compelling script and an A-list cast made this an easy decision," Ropell said in his own statement.
Other companies partnering with Fingerprint on the U.S. release of Logan Lucky include Bleecker Street and Universal Home Entertainment. The cast for Logan Lucky includes Riley Keough, Hilary Swank, Seth MacFarlane, Katie Holmes, and Daniel Craig.
The film’s original screenplay was written by Rebecca Blunt. Gregory Jacobs, Mark Johnson, Reid Carolin and Tatum served as producers.
